The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center is hosting adult and youth-friendly workshops throughout the month of November, each as part of the lead up to the Wintertide Festival of Lights event on Saturday, Dec. 10 — when participants are invited to bring their lanterns and luminaries to join the community lantern walk through Webster’s Woods.
That event includes a fire performance, interactive light art stations, music, vendors and a makers market.
From 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, the Stained Glass Mosaic Lantern Workshop offers a fun and forgiving introduction to working with glass, held at the arts center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
A more advanced workshop, the Origami Crane Luminary Workshop led by artist and returning instructor Nichole Rose, is set for 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12.
Finally, the Cocoon Lantern workshop is set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at MOSS, 104 W. First St., Port Angeles.
From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, the arts center is teaming up with the Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts at their Art at the Market program. All are invited to make a simple lantern design for free, and the first 50 participants get a free ticket to the Wintertide Festival of Lights. No registration is needed.
Youths (ages 11-14) can attend a Sculptural Lantern Workshop from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, inside the center’s Esther Webster Gallery. And, a Cocoon Lantern Workshop for youths of ages 7-12 is set for 2:45-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
A Wintertide Festival of Lights ticket is included in the workshop registration fee for all workshops.
Community members can learn more about the workshops and register for them online at pafac.org/wintertideworkshops.
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center will also be hosting their annual Makers Market and Light Art Experience, both opening on Friday, Nov. 25. Shoppers will find a range of locally-made gifts by 38 artists and artisans.
