Competitors light up the Olympic Discovery Trail

More than 340 competitors took part in the fifth and final race of the 2022 Run the Peninsula race series, the Jamestown S’Klallam Glow Run 5k/10k.

The Saturday evening race took place along the Olympic Discovery Trail through the Jamestown Tribal area between Blyn and Sequim. The race is presented by Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Olympic Medical Center. The title sponsors are the Sequim Gazette and Peninsula Daily News.

In an exciting 5k finish among the men, Sean Southard, 15, of Sequim was first with a time of 19:45, beating Dylan Zehr, 14, of Maple Valley by less than one second.

Leia Larson, 14, also a distance runner for Port Angeles High School, was the first female finisher of the 5k with a time of 21:03. She was sixth overall in the 5k and Kaitlyn Bloomenrader, a Sequim High School distance runner, was seventh overall with a time of 21:53.

Larson’s brother Langdon Larson, 16, a distance runner for Port Angeles High School, won the 10k with a time of 36 minutes, 8 seconds, taking first by a margin of nearly three minutes.

Alison Skinner of University Place was the top 10k female runner with a time of 47:30.

Registration for the 2023 Run the Peninsula Series opened Dec. 5. Dates for the 2023 events are Elwha River Bridge on Feb. 4; Railroad Bridge Park on April 22; North Olympic Discovery Marathon June 3-4; Larry Scott Trail on Oct. 14, and the Jamestown Glow Run on Dec. 2.
