What’s Happening at the Market: Sequim’s December Market is Saturday!

Warm greetings, rosy cheeks, and bright smiles abound throughout our little town. The winter certainly has a transformative effect on the folks here in Sequim and that’s our cue that it’s time to celebrate The December Market!

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 17, will be your final chance to shop local from the small businesses that create the Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market. Join us as we gather at Civic Center Plaza (152 W. Cedar St.) for Sequim’s main wintertide celebration.

Wish a happy holiday to your favorite farmers and artisans, enjoy delicious local food, and shop for functional home goods, crafts, jewelry, textiles, art, woodwork and much, much more.

Plan to showcase the most scrumptious local produce and farm goods in your holiday meal spreads this season. This market will be bursting with fresh, colorful, flavor-packed produce grown right here on the peninsula by your hardworking farmers.

Hearty crops such as roots, potatoes, onions, winter squash, and more have a notably stable shelf life. We suggest planning to purchase all your holiday food staples from locally grown sources in Sequim this season. If you haven’t had a locally-centered holiday meal yet, trust us, there’s nothing better than a homegrown dinner shared with the ones you love.

After stocking up on the foods you need to delight your guests, you’ll next want to turn your attention to the remainder of your holiday gifting list. Whether you’re on the hunt for the perfect stocking stuffer, a sentimental piece that captures the essence of the pacific northwest, or maybe even a little something for yourself (hey, you’ve been so good this year!) The December Market will be your one-stop shop for local gift giving.

It’ll be chilly and bright at Civic Center Plaza this Saturday. Don your coziest apparel, grab a hot beverage and join your community in enjoying a lineup of family-friendly events.

Meet Santa Claus

The jolly man himself will be at the market this Saturday with his friends from Olympic Theatre Arts.

A DIY photo booth will be offered, so bring your little ones, pets, and a camera for a cheery meet and greet with Old Saint Nick.

Families can also meet Youth and Education program directors and OTA volunteers to learn about upcoming opportunities to be a part of exciting theatre in Sequim.

Live music

The Backwoods Huckster will be at the market all day playing what they call, and we quote, “some pretty tasty Mountain Blues music.”

From Reverend Gary Davis to the Stanley Brothers to the Skillet Lickers, every song reverberates with the Appalachian Mountains’ musical heartbeat. Cort Armstrong (guitar/vocals) and his band of hucksters … Sean Divine (harmonica/vocals), Joey Gish (fiddle), Paul Stehr-Green (bass/vocals), and Adam Amr (drum) bring a form of dance music that lives in the mountains that separate folk music from rock-n-roll.

Puppet show

After debuting at the Winter Markets in 2021, Fabulist Fables returns with a beautiful, peaceful moment amidst the energetic market space with their original, interactive puppet show: “Bellica and the New Friend.”

Guests of all ages will join in the adventure as they discover how to explore this magical world, complete with a sensory tank for little ones to interact with. The performance will be ongoing throughout the market, allowing guests to participate as the day rolls on.

Fabulist Fables is a storytelling vehicle that cultivates emotional intelligence. Ginny Holladay is a storyteller who loves big emotions, elaborate mediums, and delicate whimsy. Bellica is a puppet made of fabric and fluff.

Holiday dance performance

At noon, Studio360 will perform with their dance company. Under the direction of Kristina Wight-Leininger and Molly Barnes, Studio360 is embarking on its first year with a performing company. The dancers have auditioned for the opportunity to dance for you this Saturday and spend significant amounts of time preparing choreography, providing community service, and acting as leaders at the studio.

Wight-Leininger says they are truly a brilliant light of joy and passion everywhere they go and are so thrilled to have the opportunity to share their hard work and enthusiasm with you at the market.
