A Sequim man was found deceased near the Olympic Discovery Trail about two miles west of Gardiner from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to Clallam County Sheriff Brian King.
Deputies received an alert around 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, that the unnamed 53-year-old man was having suicidal thoughts and alerting friends and family of his intended action, King said.
Deputies attempted to locate him by pinging his cell phone, King said, but they were unsuccessful in finding him that night and next morning.
A resident mowing his yard around 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, found the man about 50 feet north of the Olympic Discovery Trail on Knapp Road.
An autopsy is pending, but King said evidence suggests it was a suicide at the location with no suspicious activity.
King said they do not plan to release the man’s name.
