Locals who enjoy the Olympic Peninsula’s surroundings and are interested in learning about nature and making friends are encouraged to apply to be a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service volunteer at the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge.

Refuge officials and the Friends of Dungeness NWR, are hosting a new volunteer training from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 6, on Zoom.

Participants must have access to a computer with audio capability, though a camera is not required.

The Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge is seeking volunteers to help visitors and staff. Their primary duties include greeting visitors and providing information about the refuge’s trails and wildlife.

Additional activities include invasive species mitigation, habitat restoration, trail maintenance and beach clean-ups.

New volunteer training is offered once each year and is a requirement for volunteering at the refuge.

In addition, the refuge hosts its annual refresher for current and returning volunteers from 1-3 p.m. on April 6, also on Zoom.
