‘Work party’ set at Sequim botanical garden

The Sequim Botanical Garden Society will host a “Work to Learn” Party starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Sequim Botanical Garden Terrace Garden in the Water Reuse Demonstration Park near the band shell at Carrie Blake Community Park.

The event features a demonstration on how to plant dahlia tubers, followed then a tour around the garden to show and discuss the various kinds of spring bulbs that are blooming.

Dahlia team leader John Hassel will have several tubers. He will demonstrate how to plant and protect. Mary Crook will lead a tour around the terraces to show the various daffodils, narcissus, hyacinths and tulips here. She will share her experience on selection, planting, placement design, characteristics and care of these spring plants that grow so well in our climate.

A nonprofit organization, the Sequim Botanical Garden Society is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim providing information and a visual demonstration of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices.
