Sequim riders take home 6 state medals

The competition was nearly as hot as the weather.

Fighting 100 degree-plus weather during the meet,

Sequim High School Equestrian Team riders came back from Wenatchee with six event medals after solid showings at the state meet May 15-18.

Katie Adolphsen earned a gold medal in Steer Daubing while Ady Crosby took home silver medals in Keyhole and Figure Eight.

Crosby added a silver medal with teammate Clara Duncan in Team Sorting while Cody Chase earned silver in In-Hand Trail.

Overall, Sequim riders earned 18 top-10 finishes in 18 events.

“We didn’t do as well as I had hoped; the weather was a factor,” coach Terri Winters said, noting the 102-degree Wenatchee heat on Sunday’s rides. “That really was hard on the kids.”

Crosby received the Washington High School Equestrian Teams scholarship for 2008, a $500 award.
