• What is the biggest issue the hospital is going to face in the next year?

The recruitment of primary physicians and other health care professionals to meet the growing needs of our health care service area. Another important challenge is implementing the many new regulations set forth in the Accountable Care Act while facing continuous cut in Medicare reimbursements.

• What is the biggest issue the hospital is going to face in the next year?

The ramifications of the Affordable Care Act are unknown. With increased demands on services, reductions in reimbursement rates and financing expansions or remodels, it could prove challenging to remain an independent hospital. This is a whole new system where no one is an expert, nor do we have any precedence to reference.

• What makes you the best candidate for the position?

I am proud of having had a part in Olympic Medical Centers growth in employment, quality health care and services in both Port Angeles and Sequim. Being a part the OMC Board of Commissioners that collectively share the same commitment and pride in OMC, as that of the administration, physicians and staff, makes the challenges ahead easier to face. Together we are committed to providing excellence in health care to the community we serve.

Heather Jeffers

Health care as we know it is changing and I offer  experience, perspective and knowledge that is unique to the board. My entire career has been in health care. I have a wealth of relevant experience — ranging from assessing why a patient keeps landing in the ER, to complex discharge planning, to advocating for patient rights and safety, to participating on ethics committees, writing policies and procedures, developing and maintaining budgets, and managing 100+ staff and over 100 beds. Currently, I oversee day-to-day operations of a health care facility while responding to increased regulations and patient acuity coupled with declining reimbursement rates. I am passionate about the delivery of quality care to this community and I look forward to many years of being part of this health care system.

• What is your first priority if elected?

Jean Hordyk

The first priority is the same as when first elected to serve as a member of the Olympic Medical Center Board of Commissioners. That is, to be a team player that works toward maintaining Olympic Medical Center as a top quality health care provider for the community we serve.

My first priority will be to get to know the other board members, get up to speed on current issues or concerns for 2014 in addition to learning more about how the ACA will impact the hospital.
