Effective July 1, veterans ride free on Clallam Transit System (CTS) services upon display of a CTS-issued photo identification card.
Go to the Clallam Transit website (clallamtransit.com)to print off a copy of the application and after filling it out take it to their office at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, or mail it with copies of required documents to verify veteran status.
Turkey shoot on tap
American Legion Jack Grennan Post 62 will hold a Turkey Shoot on Saturday, July 8, at the Peninsula Long Rifles Camp on Slab Camp Road. All veterans are welcome.
All participants will be required to sign a waiver of liability. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and costs $10; competition begins at 10 a.m.
There will be coffee, hot dogs, chips and water available by donation. This shoot uses .22-caliber rifles only with open sights or peep sights. Ammunition and targets are provided. First prize is $150, second is $100 and third place gets $75 and all will receive a frozen turkey. There will be door prizes.

Honor veterans at The Home Depot
Save the date for the Home Depot Veterans Appreciation Day starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, starting at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Sequim store, 1145 W. Washington St.
All veterans are welcome to come out and talk to veteran service organizations and learn what they do to help the community. There will be hot dogs, chips, water and cake to eat.
There will be raffle prizes of The Home Depot gift cards in the amounts of $150, $100 and $75 and a Grand Prize with the raffle ticket sales money going to help and support local veterans.
Grand opening at The Attic
On May 26, Sarge’s Veteran Support held a grand opening of the new The Attic second hand store at 110 S. Spartan Ave. in Forks. The Attic supports the 501(c)3 nonprofit.
All donated items are offered to the homeless veterans whom Sarge’s Veteran Support serves within their shelter and permanent supportive housing programs through Clallam County.
All other proceeds aid the nonprofit in creating more housing and supporting those they serve.

DAV services available
There are Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter Service Officers available to help veterans with questions at two places on the Olympic Peninsula.
In Sequim, they are at the Work Source Building at 810 W. Brackett Road on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-3 pm. Call 360-775-6482 for more information.
In Port Angeles, they are at the Senior Center at 328 E. Seventh St. on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-2 pm. Please call 360-457-7004 to make an appointment.
There is no charge for this service. These service officers have been trained, certified and are currently receiving compensation from the VA for their past military service.
They can help you with advice, instruction and information to complete paperwork to claim benefits available to veterans, their dependents or their survivors that they may be entitled to.
