James Anthony Shea, Sr.

July 1, 1936 — May 13, 2023

James (Jim) Anthony Shea, Sr., 86, peacefully passed away on May 13th, 2023, with family by his side at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Silverdale, Washington.

Jim was born on July 1 st , 1936, in Greencreek, Idaho, to John and Ida Shea. He attended school in Olympia, WA and graduated from Olympia High School. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and was stationed in Japan for a portion of that time. He worked for the Department of Licensing (currently known as Department of Motor Vehicles) as a Driver’s License Examiner and Supervisor for 26 years and retired in 1992. He lived in Sequim for over 40 years where he spent much of his life with his wife, Joanne. They relocated to Bremerton in 2018 to be closer to family.

Jim will be remembered for his infectious smile, practical jokes, card tricks, and sense of humor. He could tell a story like nobody else. Sometimes it was hard to determine if he were pulling your leg, but his nose flare would always give him away. He had a twinkle in his eye that was undeniable, and everyone loved to hear his laugh. He loved to go camping. fishing, and playing card games with his family.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Joanne in 2021. He is survived by his three sons Bill (Becky) Duncan, Tony (Veronica) Shea, and Jeff (Jill) Shea. Two daughters, Tonya (Larry) Merchant, and Tricia Hodges. He also has nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, several siblings and nieces and nephews.

Services for Jim will be held on Friday August 4th , 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Michael Parish at 1055 Boundary St. SE in Olympia, WA. There will be a gathering immediately following the service. He will be laid to rest with his bride at Sequim View Cemetery.

He asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.

Linda E. Simons of Sequim died at Olympic Medical Center on June 10, 2023.

She was 76.

Simons was born Jan. 2, 1947.

Stanley Richard Johann

July 25, 1926 – May 22, 2023

Stanley was born to Peter and Sophia Johann in Tacoma, WA and grew up in the Puyallup area. He was the youngest of 4 children, he graduated from Puyallup High School in 1944.

Mr. Johann was drafted in November 1944 into the Army where he served in the infantry as a rifleman, seeing combat in the Philippine Islands. After early occupation duty in Japan, he was discharged in December 1944.

He attended Pacific Lutheran College one year and then transferred to Washington State University in Pullman where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering on February 5, 1952. He was the first member of his family to graduate from College.

Stanley married Mary Lou Dunn on June 1953. They moved to Midland, Michigan where he worked as a design engineer and Industrial Hygienist. In 1955 he went to work for Portland Cement Company in Concrete, Washington, then moved onto work for Mobile Refinery in Ferndale, Washington where his duties covered the design of facilities, operation of the refinery and assistance to the maintenance department.

Stanley became a father with the arrival of their son Steve Johann in 1959. Six years later they adopted a beautiful 2 year old girl by the name of Debbie who became a beloved daughter and part of their young family.

While in Ferndale, he was president of the Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of the Whatcom North Rotary Club, and Rotary president 1979-1980. He trained for and became a certified lay speaker for the Methodist church. Later he completed his training as a Stephen Minister.

Retirement came in 1984 and a move to Sequim, Washington. Here he and Mary Lou built new a new life including making many friendships while maintaining those they made in Ferndale. Stan took up wood carving which became an important part of his retirement activities. He participated in Sequim Rotary, Trinity United Methodist Church, North Olympic Fruit Club, and the Master Gardener Program as well as taking trips to Elder Hostel summer programs and travel trips exploring America. He and Mary Lou enjoyed being grandparents to their five grandchildren.

After the death his wife Mary Lou in 2017, Stan moved to Sherwood North where he spent the remainder of his life as an active member of his community until his stroke in 2021. Stan was loved by all who knew him. He Loved Jesus and is now home with His Lord and Savior.

Stanley Johann is survived by his son Steve Johann and daughter-in-law Mary and their 3 sons Nathaniel, Noah and Timothy; and by his daughter Debbie Carr, her son Nicholas and daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Tony and his great grandchildren Alaina and Ethan.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sequim, WA, June 24th, 1PM – 3PM.
