Safe, fast and effective. Those were the three goals behind Rocha Family Auto Sales’ innovative vehicle consignment program.
Recognizing the potential for fraud and scams for those trying to sell privately, owner Michael Rocha envisioned a safe alternative that makes the entire consignment process as simple and transparent as possible.
Today, the Sequim dealership offers a no-fee, 90-day consignment program that is as-advertised:
- Bring your vehicle in for a 15-minute appraisal.
- Discuss valuation, any potential issues, and your goals – maximum return vs. quick sale, for example – and agree on the amount you’ll receive once sold.
- Rocha pays for an inspection and undertakes an express detail to prepare the vehicle for sale.
- The 90-day sales window begins, with the opportunity to extend at the end or, if mutually agreed-upon, conclude it sooner.
And that’s it, Rocha says. “It’s a very flexible program and we can modify it when warranted – we just want them to be happy at the end of it.”
As someone deeply involved in the community, as a coach, school board member and business leader, the last thing he wants is to see someone get scammed in a vehicle sale. “When I set up in this town seven years ago, it was about being a good community member,” he says. “And I couldn’t ask for a better community than Sequim.”
While many other consignment sellers charge a fee up-front, plus 10 to 20 percent of the final sale price, Rocha charges no fee, meaning there’s no risk to the consigner. If the car sells, the owner is guaranteed the agreed-upon price, with any negotiated reduction coming from Rocha’s end.
Let someone else do the work
For many sellers, the idea of preparing their car for sale, advertising it, then handling viewings, test drives, sale and paperwork is simply too much. “We handle everything, then we send them a check when it’s all done,” Rocha says.
As the No. 1 dealer in the county for pre-owned vehicles, their success rate also extends to consignments: “We sell more than 95 percent of our consignments,” Rocha says.
In addition to their trusted reputation, it also comes down to good, old-fashioned advertising.
Having a consignment vehicle included among all the others on the lot ensures far more people will see it than if sold on its own privately, he explains. Vehicles are also advertised extensively online, and the sales team is equally motivated to sell both consignment and the lot’s other pre-owned vehicles.
Still not sure? Rocha encourages sellers to take his quote to other dealers – he’s confident the value he provides stands up to the test. “I just want to be your first stop,” he says.
