Locals lined up outside Thursday morning to be among the first to shop inside Sequim’s Sportsman’s Warehouse at 1235 W. Washington Street.
The new outdoor gear store in the former Office Depot features about 20,000-plus square feet of space with more than 60,000 outdoor items for hunters, fishermen, campers, and more.
Lincoln Bear, 15, of Sequim visited with his mom Joanna to be among the first customers, as he’s an avid fisherman and hunter, and a customer of the Silverdale location.
“I’ve been looking forward to this,” he said. “It’s like my home.”
Joanna said her husband and their other son are excited to visit too.
For the grand opening, the first 200 customers received a free hat and gift card, with one per family, which continued Friday and Saturday, Aug. 11-12.
There were sweepstakes, in-store giveaways, product demonstrations and more planned for the grand opening events.
Richard Whittier of Sequim was the first in line at 7:20 a.m. Thursday morning, saying he’s been an outdoorsman his whole life. He’s shopped at the Sportsman’s Warehouses in Oregon and Silverdale before and he was unsure what he was looking for specifically inside.
Christine Rich of Sequim said she learned of the grand opening event the night before on Facebook and decided to check it out with her husband Noel.
Gary Gill, also of Sequim, was the store’s first person to get a fishing license. He’s visited an Everett Sportsman’s Warehouse by his brother before and said he was “so excited when I learned they were going to open here.”
Sequim’s Sportsman’s Warehouse is the company’s 14th Washington state location. For job openings and more information about the company, visit sportsmans.com.
The Sequim store is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
