On July 12 at 10 a.m. the Master Gardener’s Class Act Series features Jeanette Stehr-Green who will give her audience an enthusiastic talk on growing raspberries.

All Class Act presentations are held at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden at 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim.

She will talk about the life cycle of raspberries and how it affects fruit production and pruning needs. She will share information on raspberry varieties recommended for the Pacific Northwest and describe their ideal planting site. Stehr-Green will discuss planting and care of raspberries (including trellising) and demonstrate how to prune raspberry canes to increase productivity and minimize diseases.

Raspberries are the hardiest of the cane berries and can be grown across the North Olympic Peninsula. This presentation will help local gardeners grow raspberries successfully and help them extend the fresh berry season by careful variety selection.

Stehr-Green is a berry enthusiast and enjoys growing, picking and eating berries. She has grown raspberries in her home garden for more than 10 years. She loves talking about berries and has provided instruction to hundreds of local gardeners about growing berries on the North Olympic Peninsula.
