Milestone: Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club gives back to community

Members of the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club, an AKC-licensed all-breed club and nonprofit, hosts three events each year in Sequim and Port Angeles.

In May 2023, the club hosted a scentwork trial at the Clallam County Fairgrounds; in June, the club held a three-day agility-rally-obedience trial at the ballfields at Carrie Blake Community Park, and in July the club hosted a three-day all-breed show at the Carrie Blake park ballfields.

Each event brought hundreds of exhibitors to Clallam County who contributed to the local economy, and also generated proceeds that the club recently donated to four community organizations nominated by members.

In 2023, the club donated a combined $6,000 to:

• Port Angeles Police Department’s K-9 unit, $2,000

• the AKC Canine Health Foundation, $1,500

• Welfare for Animals Guild, $1,500

• and the Sequim Police Department’s K-9 unit, $1,000

“Each of the organizations listed above relies on donations and we are very honored to be able to help support them in their efforts,” club representatives said in a press release.

Both Sequim and Port Angeles police departments will replace their K-9 canine staffers in 2025, as Bodie and Mamba are retiring. Each K-9 replacement costs about $10,000, club members noted.
