Milestone: Kang receives Sequim Elks Student of the Month honor

The Sequim Elks’ Student of the Month for January 2024 is Joseph Kang, a sophomore at Sequim High School.

The son of James and Betty Kang, Joseph moved with his family from Port Angeles to Sequim about 18 months ago. He maintains a 4.0 grade-point-average and his favorite subject is English.

Kang enjoys playing golf and learning about governing laws.

His current classes include Leadership, Spanish II, Advanced Placement (AP) Biology, AP Seminar, AP World History, Honors Algebra II and Culinary Arts. He is a member of the high school golf team, and Leadership and Interact clubs.

Kang’s hobbies include fishing, golfing and gaming. His favorite pastime is to watch Tik Tok videos.

After graduating high school, he plans to attend a university in California and study corporate law.

The Sequim Elks Lodge is involved in the community by supporting school age programs such as the Hoop Shoot, awarding scholarships and Student of the Month.

The organization recognizes sophomores at Sequim High School from October thru May of each school year. When selecting a deserving sophomore, school administrators consider many qualities such as school and community involvement, extra-curricular activities and grade-point-average.

Each student of the month is presented with a certificate and monetary award. The monetary award is made possible by generous donations from Sequim Elks lodge members.
