Kingston’s prep basketball squads got the best of Sequim in a pair of come-from-behind wins Monday night, as the Buccaneers’ girls edged Sequim 47-42 in Sequim while the Buc boys earned a 62-51 decision in Kingston.

In the girls’ matchup, the Kingston Buccaneers (3-1 in league, 4-1 overall) caught up to the Lady Wolves (2-1 league, 2-3 overall) late in the third quarter on Monday night and never looked back. Sequim was up by four at halftime but costly turnovers and missed 3-pointers couldn’t help the Wolves keep up on their home court.

The Bucs went ahead for good right before the third quarter buzzer when Skyler Bakken hit a 3-pointer for a 33-31 lead. Sequim stayed within three through most of the fourth behind Caitlin Stofferahn, in a height advantage in the post, who finished with 15, and Alexas Besand with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

“We had a great second quarter but we just didn’t execute in the end,” Sequim coach Evan Still said.

Sequim travels to North Mason (0-4, 0-6) on Wednesday and hosts Klahowya (0-3, 2-4) on Friday. The Wolves play Wednesday without Elise Beuke, Vanessa Martinez and Kylee Williams who will be at a choir concert.

In Kingston, Sequim’s boys (2-1, 3-1) held a 29-24 halftime lead before Kingston (3-1, 3-2) rebounded, outscoring Sequim 19-12 in the third quarter and 19-10 in the final frame. Nathan Carleton led the home team with 20 points and Cole Rabedeaux added 17.

Alex Barry led Sequim with 17 points, Anthony Pinza had 11 and Erik Christensen added nine points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Kingston, however, held Sequim to 17-of-57 (29.8 percent) shooting from the field.

Sequim hosts North Mason (0-4, 2-5) tonight, Dec. 18, and plays at Klahowya (0-3, 1-5) on Friday, Dec. 20.
