For the first time, middle schoolers joined 18 Sequim High School students at the HOSA Washington State Leadership Conference in Spokane from March 14-16, with several students taking home awards.

Eight Sequim Middle School students participated in the school’s first HOSA (Future Health Professionals) Club during the school year, while this school year marked Sequim High’s sixth year.

More than 2,700 students from across Washington state competed at the state conference in various health care-related events.

Students also had the opportunity to attend workshops on topics, such as “Suturing,” “Stop the Bleed,” “Leadership,” and “Applying to Medical School.”

In the middle school competition, Reese Hale took first in “Foundations of Medical Reading” while Eleanor Jones won first in “Health Career Prep,” second in “Foundations of Nutrition” and third in “Life Threatening Situations.”

Kendall Adolphe also placed fourth in “Extemporaneous Health Poster.”

At the high school level, Mark Adrian Dulfo placed fifth in “Family Medicine Physician.”

Middle schoolers Jasline Romo and Addisyn Tate and high-schooler Eliana Drennen placed in the top 10 in their events, too.

Renee Colwill oversaw the middle school program and Laura Gould led the high school club.
