Simon was known as the Master of Comedy on Broadway who wrote some of the most beloved shows in American history, including “The Odd Couple,” “Barefoot In The Park” and “The Out-Of-Towners.” “Rumors” was among Simon’s later works, written in 1988, and was his first farce.
In “Rumors,” Charlie Brock, the Deputy Mayor of New York, has shot himself, and though it’s only a flesh wound the injury sets off a series of events causing four couples to experience a severe attack of farce.
When their 10th wedding anniversary party commences, Charlie lies bleeding in another room, and his wife Myra is nowhere in sight. The first guests, lawyer Ken Gorman (played by Mark Valentine) and his wife Chris (Mary Kaye O’Brien), scramble to get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive.
Filling out the cast on the PACP stage are Zach Wiedenhoeft, Rebecca Gilbert, Richard Stephens, Tara DuPont, Justin Stapleton, Dana Duffy, Rick Mischke and Wesley Vollmer, with Timothy Thorn directing.
