Two Wolves punched their tickets to state and another three are headed to districts this week after posting strong scores at the class 2A/3A Olympic League Golf Championships in Bremerton on May 6.

Sequim’s Ava Johnson tied with North Kitsap’s Calia Corden after each shot rounds of 102 to finish tied for second in the 2A contest.

Sequim’s Emily Post tied for fifth with a 111 to also head directly to state.

“Strong winds, tough pin placements, and fast greens, made the 2A league match the toughest event of the year,” Sequim girls golf coach Tim Lusk noted.

Johnson, in her second season with the team, played a solid round while Post, in her fourth season, survived a couple bad holes to finish strong with a par on her last hole, Lusk said.

“Emily came close last year, but missed the cut at districts,” he said, “so this one she really wanted.”

The class 2a state girls golf championship is set for May 21-22 at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake.

Sequim’s Rainey Brewer also qualified for the district tournament by qualifying with a 114, as did teammate Sara German, who shot a 115.

Sequim’s boys were led by Adrian Aragon, who qualified for the district tournament after shooting a 95 and tying for the sixth district spot.

The district tournament was scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at Auburn Golf Course; results were not available at press time.

Port Angeles’ boys took four out of the seven qualifying bids for the boys state tourney, set for May 21-22 at Liberty Lake Golf Course, while PA had two girls earn state automatic bids.

Class 3A Bainbridge players Rainier Richardson, Dane Byers and Andrew Jobes tied for the boys overall Olympic League championship after each shot rounds of 82.

North Mason’s Mari Morris won the 2A girls competition with a 98. Bainbridge’s Grace Charintranont was the top overall finisher with an 88.
