Veterans Corner: Flag Day ceremony set for June 14

There will be a Flag Day Ceremony at 4 pm on Thursday, June 14, at the Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., Port Angeles. Michael Trebert Chapter DAR and the Veterans Center representatives will present a program and there will be a ceremonial destruction of unserviceable flags.

If your flag is tattered and torn or faded please get a new one and proudly fly it on Flag Day. You can bring unserviceable flags to the event. There are boxes at the Sequim American Legion and at the Veterans Center where you can leave unserviceable flags.

June 14 is also the U.S. Army’s birthday!

Consider joining up

Thank you to all who attended Memorial Day Ceremonies. We don’t want the sacrifices or the service of veterans ever forgotten.

I am sad to convey the fact that the number of members in the service organizations that put on these ceremonies is dwindling. We need your help or we will not be able to continue providing these honors to the deceased veterans.

Please consider joining the American Legion, VFW or Marine Corps League to help us have enough participants to have a ceremony.

You can email any of those at the end of this column and get information on how to join — or help.
