Golf tourney to boost Coats For Kids
A local nonprofit is hosting a fundraising golf tournament in July.
The Golf Tournament Benefiting Coast For Kids & Community is set for a 9:30 a.m. start on Saturday, July 13, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.
Entry fee is $55 per player, $15 for a cart and includes lunch, mulligans, closest-to-pin and putting contests and raffles. Check-in is from 8-8:45 a.m. Payment is due the time of registration.

Anglers to meet
Puget Sound Anglers North Olympic Peninsula Chapter will be hosting an open to the public general meeting on Wednesday, June 19, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
People start gathering at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.
The clubs guest speaker is Bill Batson and his son Keller Batson of Batson Enterprises, who will be sharing the history of the Batson Rod Company and how to select the best rod for the type of fishing one does.
The club will also have a short business meeting, fishing reports, and raffle drawings following his talk. The Batsons are donating a custom-built rod for this meeting. All in attendance is eligible to win,with one ticket per attendee distributed.
The club will have its regular drawings, too, for members only. Attendees not part of the club can join that night to participate in the raffle. An annual individual membership is $25, and a family membership is $35. Membership also includes The Reel News monthly newspaper.
Youth golf camp set at The Cedars
A golf camp for youths of ages 8-12 is scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 .m. Monday-Thursday, June 24-27, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road. Attendees of Utmost Golf Summer Camp will learn about the game of golf with instruction from professionals, with a focus on foundational skills of grip, stance, swing, long game, short game and putting.
Along with these physical skills, pros will discuss character skills needed for the game and for life, organizers said. This camp will provide an opportunity to connect seniors and youth, grandparents with grandchildren or parents with their kids, they said.
Cost is $125 per camper (sibling discounts available). Lunch is included.

Henninger signs on to play in Portugal
Claire Henninger, a Sequim native and star goalie for national champion Western Washington University (2022), has inked a deal to play for Torreense, a professional women’s football club based in Torres Vedras, Portugal.
Henninger finished her WWU career in the top-10 all-time in program history for wins (31), goals against average (0.59), save percentage (.820), saves (123) and shutouts (21). She started 45 of her 55 games, including 19 starts in her 2023 senior season, and was named the 2023 Greater Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Henninger played for Sequim High while homeschooling, earning a varsity letter all four years and serving as team captain her junior and senior seasons. She recorded recorded 28 shutouts during her prep career, including eight of 12 games during her senior season.
