Peninsula coaches led their squads to North Region titles and their peers gave them their due respect.
Both Ali Crumb and Mitch Freeman earned Coach of the Year honors for the North, as announced by the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges earlier this month.
Crumb led PC’s women to a 13-1 conference mark and 22-5 finish while Freeman’s Pirate men went 11-3 in conference play and 18-10 overall.
Peninsula went on to finish second to Lane in the NWAC tournament
On the women’s side, PC’s Cierra Moss and Imani Smith were named to the North Region’s first team and Zhara Laster was picked Defensive Player of the Year and for the all-region second team.
Moss led the team with 15.5 points per game and added 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Smith averaged 13.3 points, 5/7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest.
Smith also was named to the all-region defensive team.
Laster was fourth in steals (3.2) and 11th in rebounds (10.0) while averaging 9.7 points per game.
On the men’s side, Peninsula sophomore Ryley Callaghan was named North Region MVP after averaging 14.7 points and four rebounds per game, shooting 38 percent from the 3-point line. Teammate Deonte Dixon was named to the region’s second team, averaging 15.3 points per game.
Pirate guard Darrion Daniels was named to the region’s all-defensive team.
