Home pool advantage wasn’t quite enough for Sequim High swimmers and divers, who fell to the visiting Klahowya Eagles, 106-72, on Dec. 6, the season-opening meet for both teams.

"The team swam well and our rookie swimmers and divers learned a lot," Sequim coach Linda Moats said.

Jared Hollen earned Sequim’s lone swimming event win, in the 100 breaststroke.

Sequim’s diving trio of Austin Clement, Cameron Harrison and Eric Prosser swept the division unchallenged.

"(Austin and Cameron) scored well for their first meet of the season," Moats said. "Eric … dove for his first time as varsity this meet and really dove well. Keep an eye on him this season as I’m sure he will soon be ranking right up there with the best."

Sequim’s 200 medley relay A team (Hollen, Prosser, Steve Dewey and Doug Dunbar, Prosser, Hollen) finished second by 2/100ths of a second, a faster time than Sequim’s 2011-2012 team ended with.

Markus Petersen took third in the 200 free, improving his personal best by 16 seconds.

Dunbar and Dewey both saw improvements in their 50 free times by more than a second. Newcomer Jon Donahue broke the 30-second mark.

Brandon Grow, a newcomer to competitive swimming, finished the 100 free in 1:20.

"He is a strong swimmer and with conditioning and technical development, he will be a great swimmer," Moats said of Grow.

"Overall I am proud of the team and how they stepped up this meet to give it their best," she said.

The Wolves were scheduled to swim and dive Dec. 11 at Bremerton.

Sequim hosts North Kitsap on Dec. 13 and Olympic on Dec. 20 before the three-week break for the winter holiday.
