Women’s soccer: PC stout defensively in shutout

Jaeda Mae Edayan sparked the Peninsula College women with two productive upfield runs leading to assists on a pair of goals inside of the game’s first 20 minutes, and the Pirates earned a 6-0 victory over Everett on Sept. 18 at Wally Sigmar Field.

“Jaeda broke the game open for us as she often does,” PC coach Kanyon Anderson said. “Her pace is lethal and she puts really great balls into the box. She stood out with her play.”

Peninsula (3-0-0, 5-0-0) received a pair of goals from Shawna Larson, a goal and an assist from both Paige Johnson and Elliana Barden, a tap-in goal by Lauren Lases and a picture-perfect finish by Risa Nishida in the win.

“It was Shawna’s second two-goal game in a row,” Anderson said.

Johnson and Nishida connected just before halftime to put Peninsula up 4-0.

“A really cool little play between those two, a really classy finish, three or four fakes from Risa and their goalkeeper pretty much fell on the ground [in frustration],” Anderson said. “It was a really mature, professional kind of finish.

“We missed a couple of breakaways during the game, so we are going to watch some film and break down that play and show her goal, it was so clinical,” Anderson said.

Peninsula’s defense yielded just one shot.

“We’ve given up zero shots in a few games and nobody has taken more than four shots, so that’s really ridiculous and a big statistical anomaly,” Anderson said.

“We are getting great midfield pressure and working so hard defensively high up the field that we are keeping a lot of pressure off of our goalkeepers.”
