North Kitsap’s Vikings, who finished third at the class 2A state meet, showed why they are a perennial powerhouse in a 134-45 win over Sequim in Poulsbo on Oct. 2.
“Our girls battled hard and our beginner swimmers stepped up to fill some varsity swim slots with a few girls on our roster being sick/injured,” Sequim co-head coach Sarah Thorson said.
Melia Nelson headlined Sequim’s finishes with a 6:24.38 first place finish in the 500 free, edging her NK competitor by about one second. The swim earned Nelson a district meet qualifying time.
SHS’s Ava Shinkle took first place in the 100 butterfly with her personal best time and district qualifying time of 1:06.15.
The Wolves (1-2) were scheduled to host Klahowya on Oct. 4, but a vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 101 prevented the Eagles from arriving. SHS co-head coach Cherise Feser said the team used the day for time trials.
Sequim hosts East Jefferson on Oct. 9 and Kingston on Oct. 16.
The Wolves are at Bainbridge on Oct. 18 before finishing the regular season on Oct. 23 at home against Bremerton.
The Olympic League divisional meet is scheduled for Oct. 26 at Port Angeles.
