Learn how to help prep bird habitats for winter

Learn all about the special winter needs of the Anna’s Hummingbird and other species that make the Pacific Northwest a year-long home at the next Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society meeting.

Christie Lassen, co-owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Gardiner, will offer the Backyard Birding presentation/seminar “Preparing Bird Habitats for Winter” from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road.

Lassen will demonstrate the latest in feeders and various foods formulated by Wild Birds Unlimited designed to attract specific birds while promoting thriving bird populations and discouraging unwelcome mammals. She will also stress how the products supplement the ongoing needs for a backyard habitat that provides natural food sources, water sources and places for cover during winter’s challenges.

Admission to each seminar is free; however, society members suggest a donation of $5 per person to support ongoing education and conservation programs. Note: Current Covid-19 safety precautions as recommended by Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Clallam County’s public health department will be followed for the protection of attendees and volunteer staff.
