Sarge’s Veteran Support is asking for help to make our residents’ holidays happy ones. They need new wool hats, scarves, gloves and socks to stay warm and cozy.
Canned food can be shipped directly to the shelter in Forks — 250 Ash Ave. — to keep the pantry stocked so they have hot food on cold days: chili, soup, canned vegetables and fruit. Personal care packages of razors, full size shaving gel, bars of soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes are always needed.
At Minsky Place in Sequim, baked goods (Christmas cookies!) or a casserole would be most welcome. Call Christina at 360-477-4843 to arrange delivery please.
Having a ball
Many thanks to all who donated sports balls for the children of active duty troops and sailors. I have delivered over 200 sports balls to Santa’s Castle, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. This is a great program that also takes monetary donations. You can check them out online at jblmsantascastle.org.
Junior enlisted military struggle to support their families on their salaries. This effort enables them to have gifts for their children.
Toys for Tots
The Mt. Olympus Detachment #897 of the Marine Corps League is gearing up for Toys For Tots, their annual program to provide toys to Clallam County children. Be aware: there will be no collections at either Walmart. Instead, look for collection boxes in local businesses.
There will be toy collections in Sequim at Coastal Farm & Ranch, 990 E. Washington St., from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21. In Port Angeles, there will be collections at Swain’s General Store, 602 E. First St., and Tractor Supply Co., 114 E. Lauridsen Blvd., from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Nov. 30, Dec. 6-7, Dec. 13-14 and Dec. 20-21. You can also make a cash donation at the Longhouse Market & Deli in Blyn, 271020 U.S. Highway 101, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Nov. 30 and Dec. 14.
Another option is to write a check to Toys For Tots and mail it to: Mt. Olympus Detachment #897 Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 3281, Sequim WA 98382.
Thank you for helping local children have a Merry Christmas!

Closet-pantry needs to restock
The Clothing Closet and Food Pantry at the Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., Port Angeles, is in need of canned chicken, spam, and chunky soup. If you can drop a case by the center. It would help tremendously. They also need waterproof boots, sizes 9-11.
Check out the ads and get a pair on sale! Winter is coming and veterans and their families are struggling. Thank you!
