River Center’s Nature Mart introduces limited edition ornament Nov. 23-24

As is tradition on the weekend before Thanksgiving, the Dungeness River Nature Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road, brings back its popular Holiday Nature Mart craft show and fundraiser this weekend.

Unique handmade items — one-of-a-kind wreaths, arrangements, cozy clothing, ornaments, decorations, tasty baked goods, and more — will be available from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.

All items are handmade by River Center volunteers, with all profits directly supporting the center.

This year, organizers said there are two new wreath-making machines to double capacity and reduce wait times.

“These items make perfect Christmas gifts that you won’t find anywhere else,” organizers said.

This year also introduces the first in a limited edition series of commemorative ornaments. This year’s ornament, “Railroad Bridge in the Snow” features a photo by Bob Boekelheide, former director of the center.

Organizers note that Nature Mart has been a community tradition since 2006, “showcasing the creativity of our talented volunteer crafters and artisans who work throughout the year to bring a truly magical experience.”

Center staff announced that there wouldn’t be a bridge lighting ceremony this year for safety reasons, but they note the bridge remains safe for regular use, but it requires some updates and staff are taking extra care to limit large gatherings.

The holiday lights went live on Nov. 15 and can be seen daily from dusk to 9 p.m. through early January.
