Soroptimist International of Sequim has launched Libby’s Legacy, a new scholarship fund to provide low-income Sequim residents access to the Great Futures Preschool at the Boys & Girls Club in Sequim. Collection boxes for donations are at several Sequim businesses, including Sofie’s Florist, Be Blossom Boutique, Dungeness Kids, Pacific Mist Books, Mad Maggi’s, and Adagios.
“Studies show that sowing the seed early provides fertile ground for a child’s future,” said Linda Klinefelter, Soroptimist International of Sequim president. “The Boys & Girls Club in Sequim’s Great Futures Preschool is that fertile ground, but the cost is out of reach for many of our low-income neighbors in Sequim. Our scholarship provides these families with access to that program so the seeds are sown for their children’s future.”
Soroptimist International of Sequim has served Sequim and Clallam County for 77 years. Its mission is to serve women and girls through education and empowerment and aligns with other Clallam County Agencies with similar goals and missions.
“We are known for our garden show, the largest on the Olympic Peninsula,” Klinefelter said. “We also see our community as a garden that needs the same loving care we see that brings us the blossoms, fruit, vegetables, and greenery on display at our annual event. Sow the seeds. Watch them grow.
“Libby’s Legacy sows the seeds for children who might not otherwise find the fertile ground so crucial to their educational and social future.”
Soroptimist International of Sequim also offers scholarships to graduating high school girls and women in college and vocational training, runs a medical loan closet free to residents living in the Sequim School District boundaries, and provides educational programs for members of our older community, such as Tea with S.H.E. (Soroptimist Helping and Empowering).
