The Clallam County Health Department confirmed on Feb. 20 that a 14-year-old boy has contracted the measles.

He is the sibling of Clallam County’s second recent case, a 5-year-old kindergarten girl who attends Olympic Christian School.

The boy has been quarantined during his infectious period, the health department reports, and he hasn’t had any public contact.

A person with measles is contagious from about four days before the onset of a rash to four days after the rash appears and should not be in contact with any susceptible persons during this time.

The Health and Human Service, Public Health Section continues free MMR immunizations from 8:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Feb. 24, and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 26-27.
