Renovations continue at Grange

The Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, closed starting Dec. 22 for ongoing renovations, and will tentatively reopen in April 2025 after construction finishes.

Earlier this year members of Sequim Prairie Grange started renovation thanks to bequest funds from Frances Lyon.

Grange members’ first plan was to shore up the foundation as the original building, Macleay School, was built in 1912.

Jon Edwards with Square 1 Venture Group oversaw this task and crews spent more than three months doing repairs including cutting out the damaged beams and replacing them with new ones.

Crews also built 28 new concrete support pads and posts to strengthen the three massive beams that hold up the Grange. The final phase was to lay down a vapor barrier.

With the foundation strong enough to last another 100 years, Grange members began to replace the roof and gutters in September utilizing the services of Cedar Creek Roofing and Northwest Gutter Pros.

Grange members say it is now time to move indoors for a complete renovation of the commercial kitchen, the coffee room, all bathrooms and the meeting room, named in honor of Lyon.

Kyle Fritz, the owner of All in One Services, is the main contractor to facilitate this project, which includes new cabinets, countertops, flooring, paint and new windows.

In the spring, Grange members anticipate painting the outside of the building.

Jamie Parrish Plumbing will renovate all the bathrooms, sinks, dishwasher and hot water heaters, and Tim Harrison, owner of Discovery Bay Electric, will bring the electrical system to the 21st century.

Peninsula Heat will also install a new heat/AC pump in the west side of the building, and Airflo Heating will install a new exhaust fan with fire suppression over the new 6’ grill for the Grange’s traditional pancake breakfasts.

”The goal is to keep the character and the history of our beloved Grange and bring everything up to code for future rentals,” Grange members said in a press release.

Grange members will have the task of cleaning out everything before Jan. 6th when the renovation starts.

Once renovations are complete, Grange members plan to hold a grand reopening in the summer.
