Sixth Sunshine Festival to take place this weekend

Celebrate the coming arrival of spring by attending the sixth-annual Sunshine Festival this Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, at Carrie Blake Community Park and other locations.

Festival favorites include the Sun Fun Color Run, Interactive Light Experience, Sunshine Market and the Illuminated Drone Show featuring 300 drones.

New events this year include the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe “Hooya Hooyay” social dance as well as “Boards, Bags and Brainpower — Speed Cornhole and Trivia” following the opening ceremonies on Friday evening.

Also new: Sunshine After Dark with the Super Nostalgic Band following the Saturday evening Drone Show.

Here is a schedule for the weekend’s Sunshine Festival activities:

FRIDAY, MARCH 7

Opening ceremony

• 5 p.m. Civic Center Plaza, 152 W. Cedar St.

Event will include a welcome by Mayor Brandon Janisse; Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe “Hooya Hooyay” social dance; and a ribbon cutting by the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce, followed by Speed Cornhole and Trivia Night. Food trucks will be on the plaza.

Interactive Light Experience exhibit opening

• 5-8 p.m. Pioneer Park Club House, 387 E. Washington St.

This custom-built interactive environment blends art and science and encourages visitors to look at light as an artistic design element and the physical properties of light. Sponsored by Clallam County PUD.

Navy Band Northwest Brass Band music concert

• 7-8 p.m. Sequim High School Auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

First Friday Art Walk

• 5-8 p.m. Galleries and shops throughout the city host exhibits by local artists.

Sun Fun Color Run race bib pick-up

• 4-6 p.m. Barhop Brewery & Artisan Pizza, 845 W. Washington St.

SATURDAY, MARCH 8

Interactive Light Experience

• Noon-6:30 p.m. Pioneer Park Club House, 387 E. Washington St.

Events at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.:

• Sunshine Market: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. in the Guy Cole Event Center. Visitor vendor booths as well as food and beverages.

• Kids’ Zone: 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. in the Guy Cole Event Center. Family-friendly activities sponsored by local nonprofit organizations.

• Live music, beer and wine garden: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. in the large tent adjacent to the Guy Cole Event Center.

• Outdoor Food Court: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. outside the Guy Cole Event Center.

• Community Art Project: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. inside the Guy Cole Event Center. Help create artfully colored sunshine images.

• Sun Fun Color Run: 11 a.m. Albert Haller Playfields. 1K and 5K options are available with a new finisher medal. Register at https://www.visitsunnysequim.com/307/2024-Sun-Fun-Color-Run. Sponsored by Peninsula Behavioral Health.

• Pet Costume Contest: 3 p.m. behind the Guy Cole Center. Registration begins at noon.

• Illuminated Drone Show by Firefly Drone Co.: 7 p.m. This 300-drone exhibition has been created specifically for the Sequim Sunshine Festival. Sponsored by Sound Community Bank.

• Sunshine After Dark party: 7:30-9:30 p.m. New this year, the festivities continue after the drone show with live music, the beer and wine garden, and a snack menu.
