Another option to supply your DIY projects opens this week in Carlsborg, just west of Sequim.
Sequim Ace Hardware, 232 Valley Center Place, hosts its grand opening at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, with a ribbon cutting.
As part of the festivities, the first 50 customers receive a free Ace bag, coffee and donuts. Through Labor Day weekend, the store also hosts daily cooking demos, giveaways and discounts.
District Manager Josh Brown said the former Sequim Sears building was perfect for Ace as the “Sequim community is really inviting,” and owners wanted the opportunity to be a part of a “tight-knit community.”
“Ace Hardware delivers a deeper, more neighborhood feel,” Brown said.
“Sears here was known for community service, and now we have a more modern feel with customer service attached.”
The store features an array of offerings, including barbecues, faucets, nuts and bolts, power tools, paint and more.
Stihl, Milwaukee, Ego, DeWalt and Craftsman are their top power tool brands, while Benjamin Moore is the store’s main paint brand, along with Clark+Kensington and Magnolia Home.
The paint station will serve as a customer service station, or “Helpful Hub,” according to Brown.
“We’re working on cross training everyone (across the store),” he said. “We have a good, resilient team.”
Last week, employees were putting finishing touches on store shelves for the grand opening.
Supervisor Jacqueline Lee, a retired teacher who worked in retail previously, said the staff are like family and very knowledgeable.
“It’s a nice group of people,” she said.
Brown said the 14 local employees won’t try to upsell customers on items, but rather ensure customers “get their essentials.”
“The idea with Ace is to come in and have someone walk you through what you need, and go outside feeling more confident about your project.”
He said their hope is to save locals money with calls to their local plumber.
Sequim’s Ace Hardware is the third store in Washington to be owned by Broadway Group of Portland, Ore., along with four in the Portland area.
While there are hundreds of Ace Hardware stores across the country, each is independently owned and not locked into Ace’s initiatives entirely, Brown said.
According to its website, “The Broadway Hardware Group is a division of a family-owned investment office in the Pacific Northwest.
“The goal of the group is to strategically expand their Ace store footprint from Portland into the surrounding regions through acquisitions and new store developments while maintaining the local hardware store experience and customer service,” the website states.
Sequim Ace Hardware holds its grand opening Thursday, and opens for regular hours 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.
