Free tax workshop for small businesses
The Washington State Department of Revenue hosts a free workshop for new and small-business owners from
9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, April 19, at the Clallam Transit System conference room, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The workshop covers Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements.

Reidel completes training
Co-op Farm & Garden employee Ellzie Reidel completed training in animal nutrition and product knowledge in the 2011 Animal Care Workshop and is designated a Purina Mills Certified Animal Care Advisor. Reidel has been employed at The Co-op Farm & Garden since 2007.
Chiropractic center adds providers
Carlsborg Chiropractic Center, 863 Carlsborg Road, Suite C, is now a provider for Cigna, Aetna, and Group Health Insurance. The office also provides care for Medicare, AARP, Premera, Regence, KPS and First Choice Health.

Agnew store aids children
Agnew Grocery and Feed, 2863 Old Olympic Highway, is accepting donations to the Trey Green Guild benefiting Children’s Hospital.
In honor of Maxxon Bedford Ray, the grocery owners are donating 10 percent of all wine sales to the guild during April, which is National Organ Donor Month.

Free fraud seminar offered
Ed Brady, First Federal security and compliance manager, offers a free seminar on protecting small businesses and individuals from fraud and identity theft at 6 p.m. Monday, April 18, at 333 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.
Brady will discuss common tactics used by fraudsters and share examples.

Pet shampoo proceeds help shelters
Pacific Northwest Soap, based in Port Townsend, donates $2 to peninsula animal shelters for every product purchased in April and May. Additionally the company’s “Good Hair Day” pet shampoo is a permanent fundraiser for peninsula animal shelters.

Free melanoma screenings
The American Academy of Dermatology has designated May as Melanoma Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month to raise awareness of melanoma and urge Americans to examine their skin regularly for signs of this serious form of skin cancer. Free melanoma skin cancer screenings of about 10 minutes each will take place during the month of May at Paragon Dermatology, 558 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Pick up dahlia tubers
Jan’s Country Garden, 344 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles, will open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, through Saturday, April 16, for customers to pick up their dahlia orders. The garden will be closed the next week and will reopen April 27-30. Dahlia tubers are available for purchase during this period; organic vegetable starts will be ready in May. Estes Builders puts projects online
Local homebuilder Estes Builders has installed a construction software program that allows clients to view the progress of custom home projects online.
“This technology allows our customers to work with us together via the Internet,” said Nell Clausen, custom home sales representative. “We have three clients using the software and the feedback has been very positive.”
