Talk on fermented foods at Nash’s

Learn about the health benefits of fermented foods and how Eliza Winne of Getting Cultured uses local organic ingredients to create her line of krauts at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way in Dungeness. The talk is free and open to the public. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition.

Getting Cultured made its debut in December 2013 and Winne does it all, including harvesting ingredients, crafting each batch, marketing and delivering the final product to local stores.

 

First Federal gives back

The Port Angeles Symphony’s Adventures in Music school project has been given $1,000 by First Federal as part of the bank’s donations program. First Federal is partnering with the Port Angeles Symphony to provide an opportunity for all elementary students, grades K-5, in Clallam County, the opportunity to experience quality live performing arts programs during the school year.

Adventures in Music is a collaborative project of the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra with five school districts in Clallam County: Sequim, Port Angeles, Cape Flattery, Crescent and Quillayute. For more information, call 457-5579 or see portangelessymphony.org.

Community shred events scheduled

Community Shred Events previously hosted by First Federal are now being hosted by are local food banks.

For many years First Federal has hosted these spring and fall events at their branches. Events will now be hosted by and benefit local food banks in Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend.

Hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Shred dates and new locations are:

Sept. 27 – Sequim • 601 N. Sequim Ave. (Sequim High School parking lot) Sequim

Oct. 4 – Port Angeles • 402 S. Valley St. (Port Angeles Food Bank) Port Angeles

Canned food items and/or cash donations are encouraged and appreciated. Limited to three bags or three boxes per vehicle. Be prepared to keep empty bags/boxes.

 

Customer appreciation day

Stinky Dog U-Bathe, 40 Levig Road, Port Angeles, at U.S. Highway 101 and Lake Farm Road, is celebrating its two-year anniversary with a customer appreciation event. On Thursday, Sept. 25, from 3-6 p.m. Maggie Mays Espresso & Outfitter will offer a selection of food and beverages on location, plus free cake and a doggie door prize drawing.
