Board-certified midwife Jennifer Brown, ARNP, CNM, recently joined Olympic Medical Physicians Women’s Clinic in Port Angeles.
Brown will provide midwifery care and offer a full range of maternity and gynecological care.
Brown previously work-ed for the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas, as a maternal child specialist. Brown also provided maternity and women’s health nursing care at Providence Alaska Medical Center, a maternity center for high-risk pregnancy and a tertiary care facility for the state of Alaska. She has clinical and educational experience with Alaska Native Medical Center, Elmendorf Air Force Base, and Geneva Woods Birth Center, all located in Anchorage, Alaska, and Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas.
Brown received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga., and her Master of Science in Nursing with a midwifery focus from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, Ky.
The midwives provide important health maintenance services for women of all ages, including yearly preventive examinations and consultations about birth control options, infertility or hormone replacement therapy and gynecological services.
Wew diabetes coordinator
Registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator Bonnie Stone joined OMC in April to fill the role of diabetes coordinator in the nutrition services and diabetes education department. Stone will coordinate the diabetes program, including outpatient diabetes services, and will be responsible for ensuring all requirements for program certification are met.
Stone brings to OMC more than 30 years of experience as a registered dietitian and 14 years of experience as a certified diabetes educator. Previously she managed diabetes programs in Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and Durango, Colo. In 2008, Stone was hired to assist with the opening of a Joslin Diabetes Center in Easton, Md. Stone also has worked in both the diabetes device and pharmaceutical industries.
Stone received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Nevada in Reno, Nev,. and is working to obtain her Master of Arts in Adult Education from St. Joseph College in Standish, Maine.
Urnes earns fellowship
The American College of Cardiology designated local cardiologist, Kara Kurtz Urnes, MD, as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Urnes participated in the convocation ceremony held at the ACC annual meeting in New Orleans, La., where she was honored for her new rank.
Fellows of the ACC are elected based on their outstanding credentials, achievements and community contribution to cardiovascular medicine.
