Fun classes, serious fitness

SportsFit Training Center offers levels of workouts

Those who enjoy working with a personal trainer, but don’t like paying the major bucks for that privilege, now have a new option.

Nikki and Joclin Julmist have opened SportsFit Training Center in Sequim.

Nikki calls the center “a group training facility where everyone gets the benefits of working with a trainer, but at half the cost of doing one-on-one training.”

Toward that end, three kinds of classes are offered: Group training is a way to get fit through fun but intense workouts. Warrior training puts an extra emphasis on strength building.

Athletic training is designed for the jocks and would-be jocks: It incorporates Olympic lifting, speed and agility drills, power lifts, plyometrics and more to improve explosive power, speed and core strength.

Nikki said that each session includes a well-rounded, full-body workout. All are helpful in improving “conditioning, flexibility, strength, balance, coordination and more.”

“We offer high-energy, group sessions that incorporate a variety of training methods and equipment to ensure continual results — and to prevent boredom.”

And, of course, the workouts also are splendid for fat loss and toning.

The gym, at 1102 E. Washington St., hosts a variety of workout equipment, from a punching bag to a sledgehammer for banging on a tractor tire.

Nikki and Joclin, both former college athletes, are old hands at sports workouts. Nikki is familiar to members of SARC, where she formerly worked. She is certified as a personal fitness trainer by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.

Joclin still teaches physical education and health in Matlock and is a basketball and track coach there.

The two host group classes throughout the week, with the weekends set aside for special events, including “boot camps” and visits from guest trainers.

All members are free to join in as many classes as they like.

The Julmists currently are offering an inexpensive 14-day trial membership, with unlimited access to all sessions.
