Harbinger Winery wins gold at international wine competition

 

Harbinger Winery of Port Angeles has earned a much-acclaimed gold medal at the 2013 Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition and took “Best of Class” status for its 2009 El Jefe wine, a reserve red wine blend made out of Rhone-style grapes.

 

Harbinger’s 2010 Malbec won a silver medal and its 2009 Barbera a bronze at the Sunset competition, entered by nearly 3,000 wineries from around the world.

 

Last year Harbinger’s 2008 El Jefe and 2008 Barbera both took gold medals. The 2010 Malbec also won a gold medal at The Great Northwest Wine Competition recently.

 

The wines will be featured in the October edition of Sunset magazine.

 

Owner/winemaker Sara Gagnon has released the 2009 El Jefe for the public.

 

Harbinger Winery is at 2358 U.S. Highway 101 West, three miles west of Port Angeles.

 

The tasting room is open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays (11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays) for wine and beer tasting and sales.

 

Harbinger also carries farmstead cheeses and locally crafted foods.
