Olympic Cellars’ Grape Stomp & Harvest Party returns

Olympic Cellars hosts the annual Grape Stomp & Harvest Party from 1-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. The day will wrap-up with an outdoor concert on the winery grounds by local rock-n-roll band Fat Chance beginning at 4 p.m.

Tickets to the Harvest Party and concert are $13 online or $15 day of the event. Children 12 and under are free.

The Grape Stomp carries on Olympic Cellars’ 2013 commemoration of the best of the past 12 years, as owner/operator Kathy Charlton “retires” to a new career and co-owner Lisa Martin takes the helm. Since this is harvest time, a ceremonial “passing of the shovel” will take place at the start of the concert.

Continuing Olympic Cellars’ longstanding commitment of support for the local community, the winery will partner with two nonprofit organizations for this event: the Girlfriend Factor, which provides educational grants to adult women who choose to improve their economic position in life and who strive for self-sufficiency; and the Feiro Marine Life Center, an educational and scientific organization promoting marine education and conservation, which is on City Pier in Port Angeles.

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to each organization. Volunteers from the Feiro Marine Life Center will be helping at the Harvest Party and concert.

Local food vendor Crave will serve-up gourmet hot dogs topped with stir-fried locally-grown vegetables and other accompaniments, and the winery tasting room and outdoor bar will remain open throughout the day.

Registration for all competitions will take place on site from 1-2 p.m. Competitions include adult/child grape stomp, team grape stomp contest, classic harvest costume contest and grape stomp-off.

Prizes will be awarded prior to the concert (times for each event may vary depending on participation).
