Sequim High School graduate Stephanie Reed, 26, recently was selected winner of the Miss Fort Discovery competition. She will be crowned Miss Fort Discovery at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, during Fort Discovery’s Unity of Effort annual picnic.

Fort Discovery, Inc., located in Gardiner, is a licensed manufacturer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

In early 2014, Fort Discovery embarked on the idea of a Miss Fort Discovery competition. “Our goal was to find someone to promote our product line – the Fort Discovery ‘Expedition Rifle’ and love for the shooting sports,” said Joe D’Amico, president of Fort Discovery. “In doing so, we created a competition that was both challenging and fun for everyone involved.” On Aug. 3, the one-day Miss Fort Discovery challenge included physical agility, shooting, a written exam, interview and a survival test. At the end of the day, Reed finished with the top overall score.

“Reed will educate customers about Fort Discovery products and services,” said D’Amico. “We are excited to have Stephanie’s enthusiasm and attention to detail and love of the sport.”

Reed enjoys the outdoors, including riding horses, shooting trap, competitive pistol, hiking and fishing king salmon in LaPush. She completed her nursing degree at Peninsula College and currently works as a full-time nurse for the Jamestown Family Health Clinic.
