Alana Linderoth has joined the staff at the Sequim Gazette as its newest reporter.
Born in Port Townsend, Linderoth grew up on the Olympic Peninsula. Her family moved to Sequim in 1997.
She became involved with soccer, local horseback riding clubs and attended Olympic Peninsula Academy until high school and then transferred to Sequim High School, graduating in 2008. Having attended Peninsula Community College with the Running Start program, she also earned her associate degree in 2008 as well.
Linderoth says she always has been close to her family and enjoyed rural living. Thus, when applying for colleges, Linderoth choose instate schools to maintain a relatively short drive from family.
“Family is very important to me,” Linderoth says. “And I knew I wanted to live near the Olympic Peninsula because the area has most of the things I love to do.”
Linderoth says she enjoys just about anything outdoors and grew up hiking, fly-fishing and exploring the Olympic Peninsula.
Linderoth decided to attend Western Washington University because of the location and a particular program of interest: a combined major offered by both Huxley College of the Environment and WWU’s journalism department. In 2011, Linderoth graduated from WWU with her degree in environmental journalism. Following graduation, Linderoth stayed in the Bellingham area working various jobs, including an all-equine focused magazine, Northwest Horse Source.
“My writing professors always told me to write about something I am passionate about, so I interned and later worked for a horse magazine because my lifelong love for horses.”
Linderoth moved back to Sequim, working a variety of jobs, volunteering, freelancing for the Port Townsend Leader and working an internship with the Olympic National Park. She cut her internship short after being offered a reporting position at the Sequim Gazette.
