Locals are encouraged to be hometown party-line voters for Sequim in KING-5’s “Evening Magazine” Best of Western Washington contest.

As previously reported, That Takes the Cake is in serious contention to win the “cake” category and so are many other Sequim businesses in their respective categories.

Maggie Parks of Maggie May’s Espresso & Outfitters said she was convinced by Sue Boucher, owner of That Takes the Cake, to sign up and she’s seen her ranking in best “food trucks” go up as high as second place.  

Last year, nearly 550,000 votes were counted from more than 142,000 voters for 230 winners out of 20,896 nominees.

A few of the many local businesses vying include Dockside Grill for “Seafood,” Oak Table “Brunch,” 7 Cedars Casino “Casino,” The Cedars at Dungeness “Golf Course,” Andee Clancy for wedding “Officiant,” Julie Lawrence Studios wedding “Photographer,” and the Cutting Garden and Fern Hollow for wedding “venue.”

Readers can vote by 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at best.king5.com. There they search “Sequim” and vote. Registration required.  

“Ideally this is going to put us on the map,” Parks said. “It’s huge for Sequim. We count on tourism season to get these local businesses by. And being the first food truck in Sequim, beating out a ton of food trucks that have been established for years, is amazing.”

Parks said if she were to win she’d want to throw a party of some sort to thank voters.
