You know what they say:pumpkin spice is the spice of life. It’s fall, y’all! And what better way to embrace the autumn spirit than by joining us this Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market for a pumpkin-palooza, a gourd gauntlet of epic proportions.
It’s that time-tested classic: Can you guess how much that pumpkin weighs? It’s a game you know well: guess the closest weight and win a prize. The squash in question, however, has been growing inch by inch in the garden patches of a business right here in town.
The folks over at Castell Insurance, local business and our collaborators for this event, have been tending diligently to the pumpkin with the same time and care that they give local residents when selecting insurance. Saturday, the Great Pumpkin will rise out of the pumpkin patch and join us at the market.
It’s no small feat, as pumpkins on average take 85-120 days to grow to maturity. For heat-loving vegetables within our maritime, Pacific Northwest climate, it can be a challenge to germinate and pollinate pumpkins early enough on the heels of our cold, wet springs.
While Castell Insurance has been entrusted as the guardians of our pumpkin, at the market we’re curating a special gift basket for grand prize winner. The basket will feature an assortment of seasonal delights and artisan goods from our vendors.
Additionally, three random folks who enter the contest will be drawn as winners for one of the market’s seasonal art tote bags.
So, as the scent of pumpkin spice fills the air and the leaves fall across the Sequim Civic Center Plaza, don’t miss this chance to join in the fun and test your guessing skills. Let’s welcome autumn in style and see who can take home the incredible gift basket and the title of the Pumpkin Weight Guessing Champion.
We can’t wait to share this memorable day with you and your family!
