What’s new at the market this week is more and more produce! We are thrilled to see the salad mixes pouring in and fresh berries. Look for Graysmarsh bringing in oodles of fresh berries starting this Saturday. 

Fresh basil, spring turnips, spinach, arugula and more are all starting to fill the market. Mary and Herman Horst of M & H Farm have come back and have beautiful produce and flowers for sale. 

Come down and get the freshest produce around.

Also New at the Market is knife/blade sharpening. Joe Edwards will have a booth offering the service of sharpening. Bring your scissors, kitchen knives, garden clippers, or other tools to have them sharpened while you wait. 

Our featured vendor this week is Donna Standerwick of Laughing Loon, who works with clay. 

“I fell in love with clay and am now doing wheel work, hand-built, and combined wheel-hand-built: pots, sculpture, etc.; creative, decorative and functional," Standerwick says. 

"For me, the tactile feel of the clay in/on my hands is a connection to creation and the earth. I often play John Denver’s ‘Potter’s Wheel’ for inspiration when working. I turned my dog house into a pottery shed where guests are always welcome by appointment.”

When I asked her what is new in her booth, Standerwick says, “I have quite a few new items in my booth such as butter bowls, aka French butter dishes, new Manhandle-R mugs, scour pad holders to hide that scruffy looking thing, rice bowls, yarn bowls, orchid pots, hand-made place mats, potholders and crocheted dish cloths/hot pads, music boxes and specialty dishes."

“I really enjoy being at the SOAM," she says. "It is a perfect opportunity to show my work, both pottery and Fine Art prints and originals. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet local people, visitors to our area, and to spend time with old friends. The atmosphere is so alive and festive, it makes the market a joy. As featured vendor on June 30, I am giving coupons for $5 off on any purchase of $10 or more. Hope to see you at the market.”

In our Suzanne Arnold Community Booth on June 30 will be the Sunrise Rotary. On July 7, Peninsula Friends of Animals will be present selling their extraordinary potholders and the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center will also be with us to answer any questions and share information.

The music on June 30 will be the fabulous musician Buck Ellard and on July 7 Cort Armstrong and his crew will be filling the market with bluegrass, Appalachian, rock ‘n’ roll and who knows what else. Live music weekly is 11 a.m.-2 pm.
