Twelve years later, those old enough to remember will obviously never forget where they were when they learned of the devastation from 9/11.

That, says Carol Swarbrick Dries, is why she and Paul Martin revisit “The Guys” for a third time with Readers Theatre Plus for one free performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Dungeness Schoolhouse.

The two-person play follows a New York City fire department captain who lost eight men in the collapse of the Twin Towers. He must write eulogies with help from a journalism professor in such a way to offer solace to the families of his “guys.”

“It’s not reliving the attacks but the recovery,” Swarbrick Dries said of the play.

Martin, who visited the 9/11 Memorial twice this year, said it’s an uplifting play and people won’t leave depressed.

“It’s beautifully written,” he said.

Last year, 85 people attended last year donating several hundred dollars to the American Legion Riders.

This year, the riders escort theatergoers into the building beneath the canopy of their “Flag Line.”

Donations benefit Puppy Pilots, a local puppy-trainer program for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Readers Theatre Plus’ next show in December, “SantaLand Diaries” by David Sedaris, also benefits Puppy Pilots.

The previous two years of 9/11 performances have raised more than $1,000 for local charities.
