Fly-fishing group hosts free Elwha movie showing
The Greywolf Fly Fishing Club is sponsoring a free showing of “Return of the River” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.
This locally produced documentary covers the history of the Elwha River dams from their construction to their demolition. You will see how these dams and their removal impacted the history and ecology of the Elwha River and communities on the Olympic Peninsula. Following the showing the co-director will discuss the film and will be available to answer questions.
‘Disordered world’ talk set for Jan. 16
The Sequim Great Decisions Discussion Group will present “The Unravelling – How to Respond to a Disordered World” at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The suggested background reading for the discussion is the article, “The Unravelling,” from the November/December 2014 edition of “Foreign Affairs.” New members are welcome. The Jan. 23 Fourth Friday Readings in Sequim features poet Sally Albiso. Hosted by Writers on the Spit, the readings are held at Rainshadow Coffee Bar, 157 W. Cedar St., in Sequim, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It’s recommended that you arrive by 6 p.m. to get a good seat. Sign in for 5-minute Open Mic Readings. Rehearse in advance as the readings are timed.
Monday Musicale meets
Monday Musicale will meet Monday, Jan. 19, at Queen of Angeles fellowship hall, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles. The noon meeting will be followed by 1 p.m. entertainment, open to the public.

The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim. “Look Up! Birds and Other Natural Wonders Just Outside Your Window” will be presented by author Woody Wheeler. His new book is a series of nature essays. He will read and expand on passages from his book and illustrate his talk. The program is free and open to the public.
