MAC offers art classes for children

The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley offers Monday and Friday art classes for children from preschool through K-8 at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Learn East Coast Swing

Steve Johnson offers beginning dance lessons in East Coast Swing from 7-8 p.m. Wednesdays starting today, Jan. 9, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh Ave. Cost is $5 per class or $30 for eight weeks. Proceeds fund community dances.

Local students star in country-western musical

Olympic Theatre Arts, The Missoula Children’s Theatre and more than 50 local students present "Beauty Lou and the Country Beast," a fresh country-western musical look at a favorite story, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students at the door.

Backcountry Film Festival screens

The Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave., Port Angeles. Admission is $10, with proceeds funding Peninsula Boys & Girls Clubs winter activities at Hurricane Ridge.

SARC offers oil painting classes

Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, 610 N. Fifth Ave., offers an oil painting class for all skill levels on Thursdays from Jan. 10-Feb. 28. Select either a 10:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. class time. All supplies are included in class fee. Call 683-3344, ext. 10, for details.

Book discussion set

The Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., hosts a discussion of Jeffrey Eugenides’ "Middlesex" at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. Copies of the book, as well as audio and downloadable versions, are available at the library and can be requested online through the library catalog at www.nols.org. ‘Circus Cinema’ begins

Academy Award winner "The Greatest Show On Earth" opens a three-film Circus Cinema series at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The free series is a special event of the Winter Reading Circus reading program for adults. Upcoming films include Cirque Du Soleil’s "Varekai" (Feb. 20) and "Cabaret" (March 20). ‘Night Circus’ opens reading program discussions

"The Night Circus," Erin Morgenstern’s novel about competing illusionists, will be discussed at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., as part of the Winter Reading Circus program for adults. Participants will be entered in the prize drawings for e-readers or a stay at Lake Crescent Lodge.

Print copies of the book are available at the library, along with audiobooks on CD. Drop-ins are always welcome.
