Riverstone’s art on display at Harbor Art Gallery

Jodi Riverstone’s creative eye for two-dimensional artistic expression is on display in September at Harbor Art Gallery, 114 North Laurel St., Port Angeles.

Through the use of acrylics, Riverstone conveys her interpretations of regional scenes as well as other colorful mixed media art, some of which evokes the feeling tone of the poetry and prose she has written that is sometimes seen within the image.

“I’ve been recently drawn to creating poetry or prose when contemplating a subject and it’s been fun to see how the written work then also informs the visual art that comes out of that process,” Riverstone said.

Harbor Art Gallery is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. During the Second Saturday Art Walk on Sept. 10, the gallery will be open until 7 p.m., and visitors can meet with Riverstone and other artists present that are part of the artist cooperative.

The gallery showcases work by local artists Bob Stokes and Cindy Elstrom, Carolyn Guske, Robert Amaral, Kelly Coffey, Garret Delabarre, Terri Ench, Tammy Hall, David Johannessohn, Susan Kantowitz, Ruth Kaspin, Nancy McFaul, Gail McLain, Roger Mosley, Eric Neurath, Randy and Sallie Radock, Jodi Riverstone, Nathan Shields, Lance and Haley Snider, Eileen Webb and Kevin Willson.

Square dancing to restart

The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club is offering beginning square dance lessons starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.

All are invited to a free ice cream social and an introductory dance lesson.

Lessons are held each Thursday evening through the autumn and winter, with graduation in the spring.

Organizers note there is no experience necessary; the program is designed for those who have never square danced in their lives (or maybe years ago), but wished they had.

Big skirts and bolo ties are not part of the dress code; the Rhody O’s are an informal group who dance in shorts and jeans and sometimes their gardening clothes.

For more information, call Trish Gaine at 360-683-2409.
