PA Players’ seek actors
Auditions for the Port Angeles Community Players’ winter play, “Enchanted April,” will be conducted from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 11 and from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 14 on the playhouse main stage at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The show performance dates are from Feb. 21-March 9.
Three men ranging in age from mid-20s to 50-plus and five women in their mid-20s to 60-plus are needed to cast the show. Actors only need to attend one audition session.
Rehearsals will start as early as Dec. 30. Rehearsals will generally be three or four times per week, but in the early weeks, not everyone will be required to attend every rehearsal.
The play, written by by Matthew Barber, is based on the novel by Elizabeth von Arnim. Feeling lost in the shadows of marriage and forgotten in the rush of 1920s post-war society, two London housewives pool their savings to rent a villa in Italy for a ladies-only holiday away, reluctantly recruiting a pair of difficult upper-class women to share the cost and the experience. Together under the Mediterranean sun, the four women clash — and then begin to bond and bloom — until men once again upset the balance.
Director Janice Parks said all the characters have experienced a loss of some kind and are working through what that means and how they continue with the rest of their lives.
Parks requests that potential cast members avoid watching the movie version of “Enchanted April” in order to look at the script from a fresh perspective.
Perusal copies of the script are available at the Sequim and Port Angeles public libraries. If an actor wishes to audition but cannot make the scheduled audition dates, contact PACP board member Ken Winters at kenpacp@gmail.com.
