Here are some upcoming events in the arts and entertainment community.

Indian caste system is topic

“The White Tiger” by Aravind Adiga will be discussed at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Copies of the novel are available at the library in various formats, including regular print and as an audio downloadable or Playaway; they can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. Pre-registration for this program is not required; drop-ins are welcome.

Beading workshops offered

The Jamestown Tribal Library presents two free beading workshops led by Jamestown S’Klallam elder Janet Duncan from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, and Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. This first class will focus on beaded earrings. Seating and materials are limited so registration is required. RSVP to Bonnie Roos at broos@jamestowntribe.org or 681-4632.

Square dancing class begins

The Strait Wheeler Square Dance Club of Port Angeles hosts a new class from 7-9 p.m. Sundays at the Port Angeles Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St. All ages are welcome and no partner is needed. For more information, contact Glen at 457-3912. The first class began Feb. 8.

OPAS annual photo night

The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim.

The program will be local bird photos taken over the past year. Member Dow Lambert has offered to be the group’s technical whiz and assist in projecting the bird images.

Jazz improvisation featured

Jazz saxophonist and flutist Mark Lewis gives a free clinic/demonstration on Jazz Improvisation from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb, 19, at Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall. Call 417-6405 or e-mail djones@pencol.edu.

MAC seeks ‘buggy’ artists

The Sequim Museum & Arts Center seeks artists to enter its open show in April entitled “Birds, Bees & Bugs.”

All media will be accepted, including, but not limited to watercolor, oil, acrylic, pencil, pen and ink, pastel, collage, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, fine arts textiles, photography and fine crafts, etc., up to four pieces for each artist. Entry fee will be $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Entry forms will be available at the Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St., during open hours. Art will be accepted at the Exhibit Center from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, and Monday, March 30.
